I love to paint crows, dark botanicals and shadow creatures and also capture the mood and fleeting glimpse of a moment in time. I’m fascinated by crows as they symbolise so much: the afterlife, wisdom, intelligence, adaptability, prescience, fortune, and the future. They have a dark side and mediate the space between life and death; for me they are guardians, communicators, and a comfort in tempestuous times.
I like to use a variety of materials, collage, oil and acrylic, water colour and mixed media from scraps and other materials. My work is often created as gifts for others, as souvenirs of time together and as memories of particularly significant experiences. I am currently working on larger canvases and a commission for an outside space in Greece.
My creative portfolio spans most of my life. My grandmother was a prolific painter and as a student while travelling I drew people in cafés and fellow travellers to pay my way. As an artist’s model I learned some techniques from the other side of the easel and then taught art in various Italian schools and Art History at the Accademia delle belli Arti in Turin in Italy. Self-taught, I am now taking more time to paint and draw and explore a variety of techniques.
