StRuCtuRaLlY - F*cKeD - A new code of practice for UK’s artists and the visual arts sector is currently being prepared, and will soon be published by, a-n The Artists Information Company. This unique initiative is the next step in a-n’s campaign to redress the public art sector’s ‘culture of systematic exploitation’ of artists, powerfully revealed in a-n’s recently published research report: Structurally F-cked.
Commissioned by a-n, the report’s de-vowelled title is quoted from testimony given by one of over 100 artists who responded to the research: ‘as the artist you’re at the bottom of the food chain and expected to do your “magic” in a system that is structurally f*cked’.

Make It - Most business and entrepreneurship programmes deal perfectly well with the technical side of doing business (fixed and variable costs, the 4 Ps etc) yet may appear dry and dusty to the artist and artisan who sees financial discussions to be at odds with their creativity. By asking participants to present their work from the outset and setting the structure around the triad of easily produced and saleable/high-end/creative joy, they will orientate business discussions around their creative output, seeing the links between a viable strategy to create a livelihood - growing a business - and their growth as an artist.

a-n The Artists Information Company - Artists Council is an advisory group to the Board and Executive of a-n. Over a three-year term, Council members will play a key role in driving the direction of a-n’s advocacy, research and programme activities, with a focus on the leadership development of artists. Artists Council meets four times a year to voice the concerns of artists in their networks and communities, and to take part in a Leadership Development programme developed by a-n in partnership with Clore Leadership.
Talasin, an 'Amazigh' name meaning ‘woven tales’, is a wholistic attempt to preserve, revitalise and elevate Morocco’s ancient craft of weaving handmade rugs.
A form of tapestry in its origins, Amazigh rugs are deeply enmeshed with the lands, people and fauna of the northern Maghreb. But due to mass production and commodification of the rug industry, the Moroccan “Berber” rug exists today as a shadow of a reflection of itself https://www.ateliertalasin.com/ |
